We are all very aware of the amount of information we receive on a daily basis. So, the question is, how do we filter relevant, truthful, accurate, legal and respectful information in the media?
Media and Information Literacy “concerns the ability to interpret, understand and express creativity through digital media, as critical thinkers.†A digital citizen, needs to be equipped with the ability to participate in the online community in a meaningful, effective, legal, respectful and safe way.Â
This is why at Rochester School, we have integrated the Student Standards (ISTE)Â in the curriculum. We wish to prepare and empower our students to face the challenges of a highly paced information world, across all areas and grade levels.Â
One of the most important resources out there for us to become more empowered digital citizens, are organizations who strive to fact check information and stop the viralizing of fake news. Here are a couple that may help us become better digital citizens and fact checking before sharing:
