We have some good news we want to share with you! Thanks to the participation of students, parents and Rochester staff in the Titi-Athlon that took place last February, we managed to collect $5’678.400 COP, which is equivalent to 1,419 trees. These trees will be planted by the Proyecto Tití Foundation in the Dry Tropical Forest as part of their reforestation program. The Cotton Top Tamarin will be so happy to have these new trees to live with their families and connect with other monkeys; remember they only travel through the canopy, not the floor.
The goal of this school year was to plant 5 thousand native trees. So far, we have planted 3,600 trees in the outskirts of the municipality of Chía, plus these additional 1,419 trees. Not only did we exceed this goal, but we also contributed to reduce our carbon footprint which will diminish the global warming.
Likewise, the money donated by parents throughout the year was used to send 5’000,000 COP to “Los Límites”, a community between the departments of Bolivar and Atlántico, (approximately a 2-hour drive from Cartagena). Artisans at Los Límites community have not been able to produce or sell their product, such as the ecomochilas or stuffed cotton top tamarin animals due to the quarantine, which represents, in some cases, the livelihood of their families. This money was used to buy food for the 80 families that live in this community.
Thank you Rochester community, God bless you for your generosity.
We leave you with the gratitude video and words by Rosamira Guillén, Executive Director of the Proyecto Tití Foundation.
Gracias comunidad Rochesteriana. ¡Que Dios los bendiga por su generosidad!
