As part of the Home Learning Plan work, our Middle School and Upper Elementary teachers want to share with you what they have been doing in their virtual classes.

English Class
Classes have been amazing, even if we are apart! During these weeks 4th Grade students have been learning through online modality. We have been able to follow our normal classes using the classroom tool presentation of Our World and they discovered a new alternative to Kahoot called Pear Deck. They have been empowered and invested in their language learning even if they are not in a physical classroom.
Durante estas semanas los niños han estado aprendiendo a través de la modalidad online. Para ello, hemos estado usando Zoom como herramienta de teleconferencia. Hemos podido llevar a cabo nuestras clases normalmente usando el libro digital de presentación del libro Our World y descubrimos una alternativa a Kahoot! llamada Pear Deck. Los estudiantes se han empoderado aún más de su aprendizaje, incluso si no están en una salon físico de clase.

English Speaking Class
Our wonderful students are experiencing, for the first time, the online version of a lesson! In that process, they have been able to show and give their best, enjoy each others company virtually and work together. In class we have been strengthening our spontaneous oral abilities through different show and tell activities, as well as using the vocabulary for Unit 7 in context.
¡Nuestros maravillosos estudiantes están experimentando por primera vez la versión en línea de una clase! En este proceso han podido demostrar y dar lo mejor de sí mismos, disfrutar de su compañía virtual y trabajar juntos. Así, hemos estado fortaleciendo el uso espontáneo de la lengua a través de diferentes actividades de mostrar y contar, así como usando el vocabulario de la unidad 7 en contexto.

Math in 6th Grade:
Distance has not been a difficulty for students to connect with each other! This week students have developed abilities to recognize, describe, and analyze two kinds of relationships between variables. In this context, students have learned how to recognize situations in which variables are related in predictable ways and described patterns of change in words, data tables and graphs. As they develop this skills, they are able to analyze information that is relevant to make decisions in real life situations.
¡La distancia no ha sido una dificultad para que los estudiantes se conecten entre ellos! Los estudiantes de 5º están desarrollando habilidades para reconocer, describir y analizar relaciones entre variables, identificando patrones y utilizando palabras, tablas y gráficas para analizar información en contextos de la vida real.

Life Science in Middle School
As we, as a society, have been paying attention to how nature works these dats, In the last two weeks, 6th graders have been doing the same at class. They are working on understanding population growth, and identifying how resources availability affect populations size. They are going to be able to explain how human population can change through the time due to many factors such as: food supply, drinkable water accessibility, disasters and diseases like Covid-19.
Also, 7th Grade students are reviewing meiosis in order to understand the processes of spermatogenesis and oogenesis as the fundamental basis of human reproduction. The lesson invites students to reflect on their responsibility to enhance their reproductive health.
On the other hand, 8th grade students have been working on the integumentary system, in other words, the skin. They have been using magnifying lens to describe their own skin and inferring their functions.
En casa, los estudiantes de Escuela Media han estudiado temas interesantes, que hacen parte de lo que viven en la vida real. Por ejemplo, en 5º, han aprendido sobre el crecimiento de la población y las consecuencias que esto conlleva. En 6º, el sistema reproductivo y su función están siendo abordados desde la responsabilidad de la salud reproductiva. Además, en 7º, la investigación sobre el funcionamiento del sistema tegumentario (la piel) ha sido el centro del aprendizaje. Los estudiantes se han divertido y han aprovechado la contingencia para estar más cerca de sus familias.

Earth, Space and Physics Sciences
Earth and Space are so interesting that we havent stopped leaning about it. At home, 7th graders are studying the Solar System, its structure, and how we are part of it. They are sharing common images by exploring the Earth’s movement and its behavior in the universe.
Also, 6th graders are beginning their study of the Sun, Moon and Earth. They are exploring topics such as their behavior, eclipses and how our planet is affected by this relationship.
El Sistema Solar es tan divertido, que no hemos parado de estudiarlo. Los estudiantes de 6º, están iniciando su investigación sobre el Sistema Solar, su estructura y, cómo somos parte de este. Ellos están compartiendo y explorando el movimiento de la Tierra y su comportamiento en el universo.
Además, los estudiantes de 5º, están iniciando su estudio sobre el Sol, la Luna y la Tierra, su comportamiento, los eclipses y cómo nuestro planeta se afecta con esta relación.

Math in Middle School
Interesting projects and experiments are part of our virtual math class. In this project, 7th grade students measured different objects at home in order to find their radius, diameter and area. Also, they demonstrated the properties of circles, relating their areas and perimeter to their radius, diameters and the number Pi. It was a great opportunity to evidence geometry in their daily lives!
Proyectos y experimentos interesantes han hecho parte de nuestra clase de matemáticas. En este proyecto, los estudiantes de 6º pudieron medir diferentes objetos en sus casas para encontrar su radio, diámetro y área. Además, demostraron las propiedades de los círculos, relacionando sus áreas y perímetros con sus radios, diámetros y el número Pi. ¡Fue una gran oportunidad para evidenciar la geometría en sus vidas cotidianas!
