On November 19th, 2021, Guiselle Rincón who is currently our English Curriculum Assistant Director for grades 4-12 and Family coordinator for 8A, successfully presented and defended her university thesis for the Faculty of Education at El Bosque University and under the Bachelor program: Licenciatura en Bilingüismo con Énfasis en la Enseñanza del Inglés. This accredited academic program focuses on preparing future professionals primarily in English language teaching foundations and practices, as well as in Spanish; all while emphasizing on research methodologies. Following a three-semester process, she and her research partner completed the thesis titled: Self-Recording Through Strategy-Based Instruction to Foster Planning as a Self-Regulation Skill in EFL Learners; an article that is currently undergoing a peer review process for publication in the Enletawa Journal from the Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia (UPTC). In her project, Guiselle was able to identify the connections that exist between planning skills, self recording strategies taken from metacognition and Self Regulated Learning, something which promotes autonomy and internal responsibility within teaching and learning processes. The study was carried out with young learners and focused on employing a metacognitive strategy that allowed students to take ownership of their learning process. The nature of her project is in harmony with the philosophy and purpose of our school, which is to inspire and educate students to take charge of their lives with the world in mind; therefore we are excited to learn about the results once her article gets approved and published.
Congratulations Guiselle!
